Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
The main objective of this qualification is to develop learners’ skills in practical teaching and prepare them for work in a wide range of educational contexts.
There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of practice for this qualification. An effective teaching practice experience should ideally include as many of the following elements as possible:
- different teaching practice locations/settings/contexts;
- teaching across more than one level;
- teaching a variety of learners;
- teaching individuals and groups;
- experience of non-teaching roles; and
- gaining subject-specialist knowledge through workplace mentoring
Observed and Assessed Practice Requirements
There must be a minimum of three observations totalling a minimum of three hours. Observations should be appropriately spaced throughout the whole programme and take into account a learner’s progress. The three observations must be linked to the following Level 4 mandatory units:
- Delivering educations and training
- Assessing learners in education and training
- Using resources for education and training
In order to successfully achieve the qualification learners will be required to complete a minimum teaching practice of 30 hours. In addition, all learners should:
- Undertake an initial assessment of their skills in English, mathematics and ICT. They should record their development needs and where applicable agree an action plan to address them. If learners have already completed an initial assessment of their skills in English, mathematics and ICT prior to starting the qualification, their existing record of development needs and any previous actions taken to address them should be reviewed and updated as required.
- Be able to study at Level 4. When you have completed the tests please take a screen shot of the results and send it to us, we can use these as the evidence of your level now and to give you advice on any development you may wish to undertake.
