Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (ACWE) qualification has two units, Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment and Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. The first is a knowledge unit and the second is the practical application.
The Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement has three units, Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment, Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. The first is a knowledge unit and the other two are the practical application.
It is expected that a learner can complete the programme within 2 months, though there is no minimum timescale a maximum of 1 year is set by us.
Learner-assessors will be observed carrying out their role. As well as the guided study, the learners will undertake practical assessments, for which they will needs 2 learners, carrying out two assessments for each of them. This will entail them carrying out each of the assessment plans in each of the students’ workplaces – using at least one of the methods identified as appropriate to the work environment: observation, product evidence, questioning.
Following the assessment they will give feedback to each student, identify areas for improvement in their occupational competence, set appropriate targets to be achieved by the next assessment and record the decisions. They then produce and carry out a SECOND assessment plan with EACH student using methods NOT used previously from the primary range and using any additional methods in order to supplement the primary evidence such as: discussion, witness statement, or personal statement.
