Level 3 Award in Using Breathing Apparatus in Fire and Rescue Responses
The qualifications have been designed to accredit the knowledge and skills development of learners in the use of Breathing Apparatus (BA) and Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV). Achievement of these qualifications will confirm that operatives are ready to work with, but not yet fully competent in the use of, such equipment.
The qualification consists of 5 mandatory units, all of which are knowledge and skills based;
Use Breathing Apparatus for respiratory protection in risk areas
Use Breathing Apparatus for compartment fire behaviour and fire-fighting response
Use Breathing Apparatus during structural fire-fighting and rescue operations
Carry out the duties of a Breathing Apparatus entry control operative
Use Breathing Apparatus to deal with hazardous substances and rescue response
How is the subject delivered?
Learners will receive pre-course study material and reference guides with a workbook to complete in draft form. There will also be a requirement to carry out pre course research and present the findings during a two day course. The two day course will be centred on three workbooks along with group discussions and mini-presentations, mostly delivered by the learners. Practical skills are developed, to be demonstrated post-course in the workplace and recorded electronically. Learners will maintain records of carrying out their role.
